A not so recent James Bond movie was called The PID is not enough (well, not exactly, but near by). The movie was good to watch but didn't provide a solution for real world problems: What to do if a PID is not specific enough, maybe because of threads?
This question was recently discussed on PerlMonks and it turned out that a unique Perl interpreter ID already exists but isn't reachable from pure Perl. Yes, there is some value not exported as a special variable, but a little tweak using inline C code will do the job. Just look at ikegami's solution...
